Administered by the Nebraska State Historical Society, the Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. , and on weekends from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. (closed Mondays during the winter). Guided tours of the Cather home and complete tours of all the Cather sites leave several times a day from the Farmers’ and Merchants’ Bank building. Two doors down from the Center is the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial and Education Foundation, which offers visitors maps of the town and surrounding countryside.

Travelers planning a visit may want to reread some of Cather’s fiction. The novels and short stories that draw most directly on Red Cloud include My Ántonio , O Pioneers! , One of Ours , “Two Friends,” “Old Mrs. Harris,” “The Best Years,” “The Night Express,” “The Sculptor’s Funeral,” “The Treasure of Far Island,” “The Enchanted Bluff,” and “Neighbour Rosicky.”
