A panel of 16 master teachers in American History, Government, and English Language Arts have helped us create the Collections of educational content.

Stanley Ashman
Mr. Ashman is a retired teacher with over 32 years of classroom experience. After his honorable service in Vietnam, Mr. Ashman began teaching history in 1972 at The Park School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he taught for 25 years. From 1999 to 2006, Mr. Ashman taught at The Roeper School in Birmingham, Michigan. He earned his BA in philosophy from The Johns Hopkins University in 1974.
Lela Bakos
Ms. Bakos has been teaching in Ohio’s Westlake City School District since 1991. After teaching
English for grades 10 and 11 at Westlake High School for 20 years, Ms. Bakos became a language arts
teacher at Lee Burneson Middle School in 2011. She received her MA with an educational
technology endorsement from Cleveland State University, and her BS in education at Bowling Green
University.
Lisa Bright
Ms. Bright teaches English at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno, Nevada. She has served as a
writing consultant for the Northern Nevada Writing Project, and a facilitator of a high school
proficiency-test remediation course for seniors in danger of not graduating. She earned her MAT in
secondary education from Sierra Nevada College, and her BA in English literature from the University
of Nevada Reno.
Monica Eraqi
Ms. Eraqi is a social studies teacher at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan. Since 2006, she has proposed, designed and implemented new Middle East class curriculum and final exams for Chippewa Valley district high schools. Ms. Eraqi is a doctoral candidate in multicultural education with a concentration in Arab and Muslim-American studies at the University of Michigan.
Steve Geter
Mr. Geter is a social studies teacher for Alexandria City Public Schools in Alexandria, Virginia. He is
the team content leader for US History and teaches various history classes, including Virginia History
and World Civilizations. Since 2007, Mr. Geter has also served as a mathematics instructor for
Arlington County Public Schools. He is a member of the National Council for the Social Studies
(NCSS), and has both an MAT in education, and a BS in social science from James Madison
University.
Hunter W. Hammond
Ms. Hammond is a National Board Certified teacher who teaches United States, African American
and Women’s History courses at Glen Burnie High School in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Ms. Hammond
also serves as the department chair for social studies, and is the instructional leader for twelve
teachers. From 2006 to 2011, she chaired the social studies department at T.C. Williams High School
in Alexandria, Virginia. At T.C. Williams, she implemented new programs and initiatives, such as
increased use of primary sources and vocabulary instruction. Ms. Hammond has an MA in history
from George Washington University, and a BA in history from the University of Richmond.
Angela LoPiccolo
Ms. LoPiccolo is a National Board Certified social studies and history teacher at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan. She currently serves as co-leader of the District Social Studies Curriculum Council for Chippewa Valley Schools. In addition to her AP US History courses, LoPiccolo also teaches several classes in economics. She has an MAT from Marygrove College in Detroit, and a BA in history and political science from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
Amanda McAdams
Ms. McAdams, a former practicing attorney, is currently the curriculum and instruction coordinator for English language arts and student government in the Glendale Union High School District in Glendale, Arizona. Prior to her move to the district office this year, Ms. McAdams taught English and student government at Apollo High School in Glendale since 2001. Ms. McAdams has a JD from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University, a BA in English from Claremont McKenna College and received her teaching certificate from Utah State University.
David Olderman
Mr. Olderman has been an educator at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Missouri since 1994. He teaches AP US History and AP Psychology, and also serves as the football and wrestling coach. Olderman was named Teacher of the Year for Kirkwood High School & Kirkwood School District for the 2012-13 school year. He has an MAT in social studies from Webster University, and a BA in history from John Carroll University.
Elisabeth Prueter
Ms. Prueter is a social studies curriculum specialist for the Appoquinimink School District in Odessa, Delaware. Ms. Prueter develops curricula for K-12 social studies programs, and acts as district liaison to the Social Studies Coalition of Delaware, and the Delaware State Department of Education. Additionally, Ms. Prueter is a doctoral candidate at the University of Delaware in curriculum and instruction. She has an MA in history from the University of Delaware, and a BA in Russian from the University of Arizona.
Joe Rivers
Joe Rivers has been a teacher and administrator in Vermont Public Schools (grades 7-12) for more than thirty years. He currently serves as a social studies teacher at Brattleboro Area Middle School. In addition to being on the faculty of the Vermont Middle Grades Collaborative Institute, Mr. Rivers serves on the Vermont Association of Middle Level Education Executive Board and the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Executive Board. He is also a Fellow with Student Achievement Partners, and consults the Vermont Agency of Education concerning the implementation of the Common Core. Mr. Rivers earned his MA in administration from Castleton State College, and his BA in history and education from Saint Michael’s College.
Janet Roberts
Ms. Roberts currently teaches AP US History and World History at Procter R. Hug High School in Reno, Nevada. As a team member of the Teaching American History Project, she helped create a vertical alignment from Nevada junior high and elementary feeder schools. The project focused on creating document-based questions and learning new discussion techniques. Ms. Roberts is also a member of the Northern Nevada Council of Social Studies, and committee chair of the American Business Women’s Association. Ms. Roberts received her BS in secondary education from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Angela Safran
Ms. Safran teaches English and literature for grades 10 and 11 at Holdingford High School in Minnesota. As a promoter of lifelong learning and literacy for high school students, Ms. Safran teaches rigorous yet engaging lessons that exceed state standards in reading, writing and speaking. Ms. Safran holds an MS in education from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, and a BA in English from the University of North Dakota.
Dr. Kimberly Siracuse
Since 1992, Dr. Siracuse has been the social studies department chair at Ashland High School in Ohio. In 2007, she was named Ashland City Schools Teacher of the Year for the secondary level. Her courses for grades 9 – 12 include: Advanced Placement US Government & Politics, Sociology, Psychology, and World Cultures. In 2011, Dr. Siracuse began serving as a member of the national curriculum review committee for the College Board’s Advanced Placement US Government & Politics Course. Dr. Siracuse earned both her BS in education and her EdD in educational leadership from Ashland University, and her MS in education from Akron University.
Jennifer Strege
Ms. Strege is a tenured teacher at Webster-Schroeder High School in Webster, New York specializing in Regents English courses. Since 2008, Ms. Strege has created curriculum maps for 11th and 12th grade English classes, aligning Webster-Schroeder’s curriculum to state standards. She also developed two elective English courses: “Rebels with a Cause” and “Page to Screen.” Ms. Strege has an MS in education from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and her BA in English from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
Rich Wasowski
Mr. Wasowski is a National Board Certified educator who has been teaching English language arts at Ashland High School since 1994. In 2004, he became co-chair of the English department, and won the College of Wooster’s award for Outstanding High School Teacher in 2012. Mr. Wasowki has also contributed to many professional publications, such as the Novel Learning Series, Cliff Notes and EMC Guides to AP English Literature. He holds an MA in English education from The Ohio State University, and a BA in English language and literature from Eastern Michigan University.
