Description: This leaflet, created by the campaign to elect John C. Breckinridge and Joseph Lane on the Democratic presidential ticket in the 1860 election, outlines their policy platform and positions on different issues. They state that they believe in the Constitution and that they would allow the people living in territories of the United States to form their own state governments. They also express their support to repealing the Missouri Compromise, which divided the nation into half free states and half slave states. The 1860 Democratic National Convention failed to nominate a presidential ticket at first and eventually nominated Stephen Douglas at subsequent conventions. A separate group of mostly Southern Democratic party delegates endorsed Breckinridge and Lane.
