Description:
This bronze relief door panel was designed by Gilbert and John Donnelly, Sr and is a part of the bronze doors in the front portico of the Supreme Court building. The artists describe the event depicted in the bronze relief as Chief Justice John Marshall and Associate Justice Joseph Story discussing the 1803 Marbury v. Madison opinion in front of the U.S. Capitol. Story, however, did not join the Supreme Court until 1812, which was nine years after the case was decided.
