Clara Barton was an American nurse who founded the American Red Cross. During The Civil War, she was a hospital nurse, teacher, and patent clerk. She was recognized for her humanitarianism and bravery during the Civil War at a time where women did not have the right to vote and she did not receive a formalized nursing education.
