Teacher-to-Teacher
Teachers may begin by comparing maps of North American Native American settlement in 1800 and 1883. Have them note change over time and hypothesize the causes of the change. Students should examine the terms of the Sioux Treaty of 1868 before reading the article and studying the Battle of Little Bighorn. Teachers can also have students critically examine depictions of Custer and Sitting Bull in photographs and paintings from the time period.
